In part one of Losing Earth, various turning points of the complex plot of this emerge. The first major point that affected the exposition of the story was the initial concerns raised by Gordon MacDonald and Rafe Pomerance. At the time when these individuals first began advocating the immediate dangers that global warming possess. Global warming was not something on the publics agenda and ultimately resulted Pomerance and MacDonald fighting an uphill battle from the start. The second major turning point in part one of Losing Earth begins when Jules Charney summons scientist to decide whether the white house should focus on this issue. As the individuals summoned reviewed and analyzed the data collected, Jim Hansen was introduced into the plot. Hansen was a scientist that dedicated much of his life to his work on how carbon-dioxide affected Venus and its atmosphere. This work eventually lead Hansen to make crucial predictions on how similar effects would mean disaster for planet Earth. As of right now, I would describe Losing Earth as narrative forming its exposition and rising action. Many of the ways that Nathaniel Rich introduces the plot are from first person perspectives that make the reader feel like they are analyzing the story from the point of Gordon MacDonald or Jim Hansen.
